important information

Back to School Ice Cream Party

We have scheduled our Back to School Ice Cream Party for Wednesday, Sept. 2nd. All HAWKS are invited to come to Hansen on Sept. 2nd to meet their new teacher, see their new classroom, meet new families, sign up for PTO, eat some ice cream, and play on the playground. We can't wait to see you!! Thank you Hansen Community Council (our PTO) for all the ice cream and popsicle treats!
  • Wednesday, Sept. 2nd
  • 3:30pm-5pm (open house style)
  • Hansen Elementary School

School Supplies

As a reminder, most school supplies are provided for students through generous donations from our Hansen Community Council and PEAK Credit Union. We are excited to provide nearly all school supplies for all Hansen students for the 2026-27 school year. This year, our school-wide school supply list is:
  • Backpack
  • Lunchbox/waterbottle
  • Baby Wipes
  • Kleenex
  • Hand Sanitizer (optional)
All other classroom supplies are provided for all students. Thank you, PEAK Credit Union, and thank you, Hansen Community Council!

Donations for Supplies

Though all school supplies are provided for our HAWKS, many times families inquire about donating to a supply or snack fund for Hansen. As the year progresses, we often need to replenish supplies, and we value providing a snack for students each day. This year we have a donation link set up where families who choose, may contribute to our supply/snack fund. If you would like to help provide snacks and extra supplies for Hansen, click here to go to our donation page. Thank you for all the support!

Class Lists

The Olympia School District is opening up the Qmlativ Family Access for families to see who their student's teacher is on the afternoon of Friday, August 28th. At that time you will be able to access the information about which classroom your student is assigned to. Each student is placed in a classroom with great care. All teachers and administrators take a lot time through the spring and summer to collaborate, discuss, and place students in the classroom we feel will be a positive experience for all.

First Day of School

1st - 5th grades

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!!

Our first day of school is Thursday, Sept. 3rd, and we're so excited to have the BEST SCHOOL YEAR EVER!
*Reminder: the first day of school for kindergarten is Wednesday, Sept. 9th. Your teacher will reach out to you to set up a conference before the first day.

Arrival

Our school doors open at 8:15am. There is no supervision for students before 8:15am. All students will enter the building and meet in the gym every morning.
  • If you are driving your student to school, please have your child exit the car once you are up in the turnaround area. We do not want students walking through the parking lot for safety reasons. Once your student has exited your car onto the sidewalk, please pull forward and exit the roundabout to keep traffic moving. This is very important so that all cars can get through the drop-off zone in a timely fashion.
  • If you walk to school, please carefully follow the directions of the crossing guard, enter where the car parking lot is located, and stay on the sidewalks. Please do not walk through the bus entrance gates. This is unsafe as buses are entering and exiting.
  • If your student arrives after 8:30am, they will buzz into the main office to receive a tardy slip. Attendance is critical for school success. This will be a major emphasis of the school this year. Every morning, every classroom will start the day with a morning meeting and breakfast at 8:30 AM. The purpose of this time is to build strong classroom communities and create a strong sense of belonging for our students. Being on time will be critical to their involvement with morning classroom time. Thank you for making sure your student gets in the doors prior to 8:30 AM.

If you are having trouble with on-time attendance, please don't hesitate to reach out for help. We can help!

Dismissal

School dismissal is daily at 2:45pm. Wednesdays dismissal is at 1:55pm.
  • When you pick up your student by car, please follow the traffic flow to the right after entering the school parking lot. You will then enter the turnaround and proceed as far forward as possible. There will be multiple cones that students will stand at, waiting for you. Adults will be with the students, directing them to a specific cone as they see your car approaching. Please meet your student at the cone they are directed to. Please stay inside your car if you are in the pickup line.
  • If you would like to get out of your car to pick up your student, or if your student needs extra help getting in the car, please park in a designated spot and walk up to their grade level pickup area.
  • Students picked up in the pickup lane should be independently able to get in the car and buckle themselves safely. If they need help with these tasks, please plan to park in a designated spot and walk up to their grade level pickup area to pick them up.

Walking to and from school

Any adult or student walking to and from school will need to follow the directions of our crossing guards. It is extremely important that no one walks through the bus loading area.
  • If you are walking to drop off or pick up your student, please help guide and teach them to follow the sidewalks in the car entrance gate and wait for crossing guards to stop the parking lot traffic before crossing to the next sidewalk.
At afternoon pickup, parents may wait in 1 of 2 designated waiting areas:
  • One area is near the small preschool playground
  • The other area is near the playshed.
  • Students will come out to the front of the school with teachers and stand in grade-level groups.
Students who are walking home on their own need to exit campus at dismissal.
  • There is no supervision for students on the playgrounds without adults after school.
  • If you'd like to stay with your student to play on the playground after school, please wait until all buses are gone before walking across to the playground. The bus area needs to be kept clear for safety.
Thank you for working together to keep all of our Hawks safe!

** If you have a dog with you when you are picking up your student, the dog must stay on leash at all times. Please do not allow your dog to approach other students. Dogs may not be off leash at any time during school or Ycare hours. Thank you so much for keeping all kids safe.

If your student will be riding the bus to school, you must register for transportation.
