Please click here to sign up for any open dates for announcements. We have a few weeks left of school, and we would love to see as many classrooms as possible take on a day for announcements. A June sign-up list has also been added to the document.

Strong Finish

We are really getting close to the end! I want to encourage you all to hang on tight. Even in the final few weeks of school, it's important to continue to explicitly teach kids our routines, procedures, and expectations. It seems like these are skills we would only explicitly teach at the beginning of the school year, but the truth is that kids need this explicit teaching throughout the entire year- even the final weeks of school! Please take the time to rehearse, redo, practice, and reinforce expectations regularly through these final weeks. Holding strong to basic expectations helps our students' stress levels lower. Reminding kids that the boundaries will stay in place through the end of the year helps them relax. I'm here to support you in any way I can.

End of Year Library Plan

Kim has shared her end of year plan for gathering all the library books.
  • June 1-5 students will be able to check out 1 book as long as they have nothing overdue.
  • June 5 all books are due and no further checkouts will happen.
  • May 18-June 5 Kim will send weekly overdue reminders to families.
  • June 5-15 Kim will send daily overdue reminders to families.
Big SHOUT-OUT to Kim for keeping our library world famous! She puts in a lot of work to keep things organized, fresh, and welcoming for our students. Thank you, Kim!

Hide-a-HAWK

Kim and Sabrina shared a fun end-of-year idea at our staff meeting this past Tuesday. The 3D printed Hawks will be hidden around the school, likely during the week of June 8. Kids and staff will find the hidden Hawks all over the school and turn them into Kim, who will have a grid to place them on. If, as a whole school, we can fill the grid with hidden hawks, staff (who want to) will run a "blow-up costume/mascot" race out on the field for the kids to watch... then we can do an all-school recess for a bit. We can talk in our PLC time about logistics. The possible mascot race could be Thursday the 11th or Monday the 15th.

2026 Retirement Celebration

2026 Retirement Celebration

This year Scott Boe will be honored at the event. Any staff who would like to attend and help honor Scott and his service to the Olympia School District are invited! Please join us!

Field Day

Attached here is the field day schedule. It is almost identical to last year, and there are not enough words to fully express the gratitude I feel for Melinda for making this day happen for our Hansen community. Field Day is one of the most memorable days for an elementary student. Let's get out there, play hard with our kids, and make some memories with them!
Attached in the field day schedule is a google form to sign up to help Melinda set up the morning of Field Day. The google form is also attached here.

District Tech Highlights

Kim Moore has some notes to share from her final district tech meeting of the year:

  • YouTube gaming category blocked
Blocking videos about people who stream themselves playing games. The data shows that many students are watching these videos. Blocks cannot block everything. It may block things it shouldn’t. Create a HelpDesk ticket to unblock a site. Teachers can whitelist sites by pushing links out via SecURLy Classroom.

  • Please do the Staff tech inventory: Survey on each staff OSD Portal already live.

  • Mimios and moving classrooms:
Scenario 1: If you are moving classrooms that both have mimio boards. Save any documents from one board to another by saving to your staff Google Drive OR take a flash drive and copy items to the flash drive and transfer to the new board.

Scenario 2: Moving from a classroom that does have a mimio into a room that does NOT have a mimio. If the request is voluntary, then the cost is on the school. If it is an involuntary move, then tech will provide a panel on a cart until installation for the mounted panel is approved.

  • Panels are not 1:1 teacher, but based upon building FTE.
  • Update, Update, Update! Remember to update your device. Currently Macs/PCs staff use are not forced to update, we need to do that regularly when you see the reminder so they do not have to force updates. Not updating devices can create a security risk.
