HAWK

important information this week:

SBA state testing

Our 3rd-5th grade students will be taking the SBA tests this week. There are a few important things to know if you have a 3rd, 4th, or 5th grader:

  • On-time arrival is imperative
Our testing begins first thing in the morning. Due to state guidelines, a student may not enter the classroom testing session once it has begun. Any student who is tardy after the test has begun will have to wait in the library until the testing session is on a 'pause.' (This would be for the class to go to recess, specialists, or lunch time.) At that time, the student can enter the classroom, receive instructions, and begin testing.

  • Electronics will be collected during testing sessions
Per state requirements, students' electronic devices will be collected during the testing session. Electronics are not allowed to be in backpacks, pockets, desks, or with the students. Each teacher will have a clear bin to collect all electronic devices (including watches) so that students can see that the devices are safe. All devices will be returned to the students when the testing session is complete.

Kindergarten ('26-'27) Open House

Hansen will host an open house for all incoming Kindergarten students and families this coming Tuesday, May 19th at 6pm. Please spread the word around the community and with any families you might know who have an incoming Kindergartner that all are welcome! We will have a time for the '26-'27 Kindergarten teachers to share "a day in the life," we will open classrooms for exploration, and we will end the evening with playground time. Kindergarten Open House should run from 6pm-7:15pm.

Water only in the classrooms

At Hansen, we ask that students only drink water when they are in their classrooms. This is to help avoid sticky spills and drips that are difficult to remove from carpets. This includes starbucks drinks or powdered add-ins to the water. In the cafeteria at lunch time, students are welcome to bring other drinks such as juices, sports drinks, etc. Thank you for your help to keep our classrooms as clean as possible.
