Testing Season

As we enter testing season, we want to give each other and our kids extra support. Please feel the freedom to plan extra art activities, outdoor exploration, and community-building activities for your classrooms during testing. I know there are still standards you are teaching and gathering data on for report cards. I think, if we weave in time for the kids to decompress within our days, we will see more success during the times you have scheduled for academics.

Testing Schedules

  • Reminders for testing times this week for Kinder MAP and 3-5 SBA this week:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday: SBA 3rd-5th
Wednesday: Kindergarten MAP

SBA Training slides

Attached here is the slide presentation that Kim & Molly led for our training day. Please refer to these slides if you have questions around setting up your test sessions, proctoring, testing scripts, etc. Kim and Molly can also help answer any questions you have.

End of Year Library Plan

Kim has shared her end of year plan for gathering all the library books.
  • June 1-5 student will be able to check out 1 book as long as they have nothing overdue.
  • June 5 all books are due and no further checkouts will happen.
  • May 18-June 5 Kim will send weekly overdue reminders to families.
  • June 5-15 Kim will send daily overdue reminders to families.
Big SHOUT-OUT to Kim for keeping our library world famous! She puts in a lot of work to keep things organized, fresh, and welcoming for our students. Thank you, Kim!

AVID mentors

I would love to have our students make thank-you cards for the middle school AVID mentors who have been so amazing. This would be a great activity for kids to do during testing, as they finish and need something quiet to do.
Our 8th grade AVID mentors will be recognized at TMMS in the coming weeks for their growth and investment being mentors to our kids. The teachers at TMMS have asked if there are any classrooms at Hansen that would like to write thank-you cards to the 8th graders that can be given to them at their recognition assembly. If you have time this week, it would be awesome to have some of our kids write thank you cards/draw pictures for the 8th grade AVID mentors. Please collect them and bring them to Betsy. She will collect them in a box and we can hand them off to the AVID teachers when they come on Friday.

Principal for the Day

Many may not have known that 1st grader Logan Shotswell had the opportunity to be "Principal for the Day" on Friday, May 15th. Logan has been working very hard to earn his daily stars and has been keeping track of them all year as a larger total. On Friday he hit his yearly goal of 1,000 stars! He spent the day helping oversee lunches and recesses, handing out HAWK tickets to students he found making good choices, walking the halls to keep them clean, and carrying his own badge and walkie-talkie. It was an incredibly successful day for him. Shout outs to Austen Anderson, Lilah Beck, Lisa Mikes, and Vivien Singer for all the support you give Logan and all students everyday. I love the teamwork and support all HAWKS give!
*I am always open to these kind of creative ideas to support, motivate, and help students feel a deeper sense of belonging. Please let me know anytime you have out-of-the-box ideas!

SHOUT-OUT to out PT, Andy!

There is a student in Sarah Johnson's class who dislocated her knee and is needing a lot of extra physical support right now. Our PT, Andy Hicks, stayed long into the late afternoon with Sarah this week to make sure the desk was raised, the student had a special chair that will work, and foot rests. Andy has ensured that our student has physical supports in specialist classes and the cafeteria, and he has made sure to be available for any other needs Sarah notices that will help the student. THANK YOU to both Andy and Sarah for their attentive and special care to our student and she navigates school with a significant leg injury.

Baby Mila has arrived!

Sydney Silver would like to share the Baby Mila was born on Wednesday, May 13th at 7:49am! We are so excited to welcome another Hansen HAWK! Kel and Surita were pretty close with their predictions of baby arriving on the 15th, with Jordan being also close, guessing the 11th! Kel got the length spot on, but the little one’s weight was smaller than expected (6 lbs 14 ounces).
Sydney and Mila are doing well and send their love!

Curriculum Consumables for 2026-27
