November 2018

Message from Hansen Elementary

Greetings! I hope you have enjoyed the amazing weather this fall—spectacular colors. Do remember that we are fast approaching winter with severe weather and cold temperatures. Make sure that you send your student to school prepared for cold recesses—closed-toed shoes and warm coats. Always a good idea to have your home ready for severe weather events too: three-days-worth of bottled water and food.
The annual food drive was kicked off at Friday’s Harvest Hop. Please send food items with your student(s) to school. Use the following list as a guide of good foods to bring:

- Dried pasta
- Pull tab/flip top canned items
- Proteins: PB, Spam, Chili, etc.
-Ensure Protein drinks
-  Soy proteins
- Baby formula
- Hamburger Helper/Rice-a-Roni

The food drive ends on Friday, November 16. If we donate 1,000 of food by the end of the drive, there will be a PJ day on November 20. Bring that food!

Pickup/Drop off Reminders
: When coming into Hansen’s parking lot to drop off or pick up your student, please follow the traffic redirectional cones. These are placed strategically for the safety of our students and families. Also, park only in designated parking spots, not next to a curb. Parking outside of these designated parking spots creates driving hazards. Lastly, only park in the handicap spots if you have a current handicap license plate or handicap placard placed visibly in your windshield.

A huge thank you goes out to all teachers for their time and effort for conducting such valuable parent-student-teacher conferences. Thanks to all parents for taking the time to attend and talk about your child’s goals for this school year. Everyone’s participation in the conference planning process is so important for student success throughout the school year.

Have a great start to the holiday season.

Sincerely,
Hansen Elementary

LIBRARY NEWS

Thank you to EVERYONE who supported our book fair during conference week. We had just over $9800 in sales, which is a school record! A HUGE thank you to Karah Trevan for organizing such a successful fair and to all the volunteers who worked at it.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate how the Hansen community comes out every year and supports the book fair which provides funds to buy books for the library. THANK YOU!

WHAT’S NEW WITH PBIS?

Great news supporting all PBIS Tiers!

Office referrals are down, students eligible for Tier 2 or 3 interventions are also down,
and numbers of students achieving self-manager status already this school year is impressive (150).

This all boils down to more time in class, more success in all areas of the school,
and a more comfortable environment to work and learn.
