March 2019

Message from Hansen Elementary

Dear Parents,

Can you believe that March is here and spring should be upon us? Well, it feels like we’re still in the grip of winter with a mix of rain and snow the past few weeks with the possibility for more to come our way.

Now is the time of year when things creep up on us quickly as the days and weeks begin to pick up speed.

Remember to set your clocks forward one hour on March 10 for daylight savings time.

The H.C.C. sponsored student play ‘Lion King’ last month was a smashing success. We had great audience turnouts each performance and the student actors were fabulous!

Junior Programs are coming up. Please remember that permission slips for any field trips must be signed and returned. Verbal permission is not an acceptable approval for a child to attend any field trip.

Spring parent/teacher/student conferences begin March 26 through March 29. Kids go home at 11:25 am on the four conference days. Evening conferences are Tuesday, March 26. Skyward Conferencing will be open to parents to sign up beginning March 14 at 4 pm. Information on how to sign up will be sent out March 13.

Fifth grade students will be attending Outdoor School at the Cispus Learning Center in Randle from Wednesday, April 10 through Friday, April 12. This is a Wednesday, Thursday, Friday trip. The Cispus Learning Center has been developed specifically for students’ environmental studies for both student and research. The cost of the trip is $150.00 per student. If you need to make payments, please contact Barbara Parker in the office to set up a payment plan or to receive a payment waiver. Also, if your student needs to take a prescription or over the counter medication, the medicine and doctor’s permission form must be completed. It’s always an OK time to start preparing for what the kids need. A sleeping bag, towel, tooth brush, toothpaste, backpack, and small piece of luggage/large duffel bag are helpful. We could hit some wet weather so light rain gear, extra socks, and underclothes are important. Look for more information to be coming from your child’s teacher soon.

Pizza Bingo night is Friday, March 15. Come on out for some great family fun!

Our lost and not found department is filling up fast with new items that kids have misplaced. If temperatures ever start to get warmer, kids shed their layers and leave them out on the playground. Please mark articles with your child’s name or come browse the collection if you are missing any item.

Sincerely,

Ernie Rascon

Hansen is Walking N Rolling to school all year long! Save the dates:

  • March 13

  • May 8 +  National Bike to school day!

Lost and Found

Don’t forget to check the lost and found on a regular basis. Twice a year all unclaimed items are donated to charity. Come before it goes.

Important Note

Please send an extra set of clothes to school in your student’s backpack. With the wet weather, there is mud and our students do have recess outside wet or dry. We have no clothes at school to lend to students who come in wet and muddy. Thank you for helping to keep your student clean and dry.

LIBRARY NEWS

Used Book Sale

The Used Book Sale will be in the library from Monday, March 25-Thursday, March 28, or until we run out of books. All hardback books are a quarter and paperbacks are a dime. Remember to shop early because the books go quickly and when the books are gone the sale is over. Thank you to everyone who has donated books this year, we have a great selection!

Overdue/Lost Books

Please check your child’s Skyward account to see if there are any fines for lost books. If there is a fine please return (best option), pay for, or replace the missing book.
