April 2019
Message from Hansen Elementary
Dear Parents,
Let’s have a strong push for continued success upon our return from Spring Break.
The annual HCC Bingo and Pizza Night March 15 was a great success! Special thanks to those who organized the event and many special thanks to all parents who helped set up the cafeteria, served food and refreshments, and cleaned up afterward.
Fifth grade students left for Cispus today! Many smiling faces climbed aboard the buses for a great new adventure. The Cispus buses are due back at Hansen Friday, April 12 at 2:00 pm. For 5th grade students not attending Cispus, they are expected to attend school at Hansen Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Marshall Middle School will be having a parents-only Parent Night at Marshall for incoming parent of 6th graders. Mark you calendars for Thursday, April 18 at 6 pm. Parents will meet in the cafeteria and learn the nuts-and-bolts of Marshall and have a chance to tour the school. The incoming 6th graders (your current 5th grader) will have an opportunity to tour the school in June. Look for that date in the June Newsletter.
This year’s Fun Run will be run by the company Boosterthon, that will kick off with a Pep Rally on Monday, April 8. For the next two weeks, your family will gather pledges for every lap your student runs (30-35 laps). You can register your student at funrun.com and our registration code is 373-584. Each day classes will watch STEAM, a character-building video, and the run will occur on Friday, April 19. Come out to volunteer or cheer your kids on! Remember, if you have not already done so, complete a Volunteer Application (click here to complete the application ONLINE Volunteer Application ) so that you can participate.
8:45 – 9:45 am: 4th/5th grades
9:45 – 10:45 am: Kinder and 1st grades
10:45 – 11:45 am: 2nd/3rd grades
The HAP Lottery will be held on Friday, April 19 at 3 pm in the Hansen Library. If you have signed your students up to participate in the HAP Lottery, please come for the event.
International Night, sponsored by HAP, will be held Friday, May 3 at 6 pm in the Hansen cafeteria. The evening will be filled with performances, displays and a potluck of international foods. All Hansen classrooms and students are invited to participate. In preparation for International Night, HAP is creating an international cookbook. Email [email protected] with your recipes.
As we begin asking families about whether they are returning to Hansen next school year, our teachers begin to think about making student placements for the next school year (keep an eye out for an email requesting your enrollment plans for next school year). Student classroom teacher placement is a decision made with a lot of thought and effort by teachers and staff at Hansen. Teachers work together to make the best possible class lists for the coming school year. Teachers take many things into considerations when developing balanced class placements, such as:
Behavior
Academic performance
Gender Balance
Social Dynamics
Mark your calendars for Muffins for Mom: May 10 starting at 7:15 am. Enjoy breakfast with you student here at school. Breakfast is served in the cafeteria.
Sincerely,
Hansen Elementary
