Teacher reaches out to high five a student at Track Stars

Welcome to the 2018-29 School year!

About me:

This is my third year teaching first grade at Hansen Elementary! I am looking forward to working with the new year of first graders as they develop into confident and capable scholars. I earned my undergraduate degree in biology, and have my Master in teaching. I’ve been living in and around Olympia since 2008 and love to ride my bike, garden, hike, and do yoga.

First Grade:

To me, first grade is all about helping students become fluent readers who read not only because they are told to, but because they love to read. Along with reading, first grade sets the foundations for students’ mathematical and writing skills- and my goal is to help every student enjoy reading, writing, and solving math challenges.

Volunteering in the Classroom:

Volunteers help classrooms run smoothly and students find success. I strongly encourage you to volunteer if you are able; I have volunteer tasks ranging from working with students one-on-one to making copies and correcting tests. No matter what your skill set, I can find a place for you!
