March 2018

From the desk of Principal Ernie Rascon

Dear Parents,

Can you believe that March is here and spring should be upon us? Well, it feels like we’re still in the grip of winter with a mix of rain and snow last week and continued cold temperatures this week. As a result, school will be out on Wednesday, June 20.
Mom and student reading

Now is the time of year when things creep up on us quickly as the days and weeks begin to pick up speed.
Remember to set your clocks forward one hour on March 11 for daylight savings time.

Construction on the new 10-room mini building is very close to completion. Teachers will begin moving into the building on Thursday, March 15. We will be fully operational on Monday, March 19. There will be an official open house and ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, March 22 at 3:30 pm in Room 101. Very exciting.

The H.C.C. sponsored student play ‘Mulan’ last month was a smashing success. We had great audience turnouts each night and the student actors were fabulous!

Junior Programs are coming up. Please remember that permission slips for any field trips must be signed and returned. Verbal permission is not an acceptable approval for a child to attend any field trip.

Spring parent/teacher/student conferences begin March 27 through March 30. Kids go home at 11:25 am on the four conference days. Evening conferences are Tuesday, March 27. Skyward will be opened to you for scheduling those conferences March 12.

Fifth grade students will be attending Outdoor School at the Cispus Learning Center in Randle from Wednesday, April 11 through Friday, April 13. This is a Wednesday, Thursday, Friday trip. The Cispus Learning Center has been developed specifically for students’ environmental studies for both student and research. The cost of the trip is $150.00 per student. If you need to make payments, please contact Barbara Parker in the office to set up a payment plan. Also, if your student needs to take a prescription or over the counter medication, the medicine and doctor’s permission form must be completed and turned into the office no later than March 7. Call the school if you have questions. It’s always an OK time to start preparing for what the kids need. A sleeping bag, towel, tooth brush, toothpaste, backpack, and small piece of luggage/large duffel bag are helpful. We could hit some wet weather so light rain gear, extra socks, and underclothes are important. Look for more information to be coming from your child’s teacher soon.

Pizza Bingo night is Friday, March 16. Come on out for some great family fun!

Our lost and not found department is filling up fast with new items that kids have misplaced. If temperatures ever start to get warmer, kids shed their layers and leave them out on the playground. Please mark articles with your child’s name or come browse the collection if you are missing any item.

Sincerely,
Ernie Rascon

Used Book Sale

The Used Book Sale will be in the library from Monday, March 26 through Thursday, March 29, or until we run out of books. All hard back books are a quarter and paperbacks are a dime. Remember to shop early because the books go quickly, and when the books are gone the sale is over. Thank you to everyone who has donated books this year, we have a great selection!
