January 2019 Message from Hansen Elementary Dear Parents, Greetings! I hope your recent holiday season was filled with family fun and relaxation.  Although we have had a fairly mild fall and winter, January and February are usually months when we might encounter snowy or icy weather conditions. It is always a good time to take a few minutes to cover at-home safety procedures in the event we experience a natural disaster or experience loss of power. Here are some safety reminders: • Make sure your home is prepared by having at least three days of food and water. • Replace batteries in your battery operated radio and flashlights. • Tune your radio to KGY (1240 AM/96.9 FM), KMAS (1030 AM), KXXO - MIXX (96.1 FM), or KAOS (89.3 FM) for up-to-date information.  • On the internet, access the Olympia School District website at http://osd.wednet.edu • Please notify the Hansen office staff in advance of your usual daytime location.  • Keep the office staff apprised of any changes to your location. • In any community emergency, help or assist others where you are first. • Stay where you are until the situation is stable. When it is deemed safe for travel, come to Hansen. • Don’t count on telephone communication in an emergency, phones probably won’t work. • When you arrive at Hansen, you may find the campus with gates locked and the campus accessible only by foot traffic. Only emergency vehicles will be permitted on the grounds. • Please do not block entrances, come to the office or central spot under the play shed. • Make sure your child(ren) know your home, work, and cell numbers. If your kids do not know your phone numbers, please have them memorize those phone numbers now. January is usually a time when we make a resolution to eat healthier, lose weight, and exercise more which we tend to forget about by Valentine’s Day. Instead, make these two resolutions and keep them: Mark your calendar for Hansen’s Reading Night to be held on Thursday, January 24 from 6:00 – 7:30 pm.  Read with your child and have them read to you for 20 minutes every day.  Thank you Hansen community families for donating holiday gift items to the needy last month. Our lost and not found department was sent to a needy charity over the winter break. It is already filling up with new items that kids have misplaced. Please mark articles with your child’s name or come browse the collection if you are missing anything. Sincerely, Ernie Rascon Mark Your Calendars!  January 21 - Martin Luther king Jr Day - NO SCHOOL  January 24; 6 PM - Family Reading Night  EVERY WEDNESDAY --- EARLY RELEASE AT 1:52 Walk N Roll Hey Hansen Hawks, it’s time to Walk N Roll!
